Efficiency in terms of fuel consumption is an issue which a lot of car owners face in Malta. Whether you are concerned with the environmental impact of exhaust gas emissions or are mindful about the way you spend your money, we at Joem Auto Parts Ltd have come up with a short list of do's and don'ts which you can follow in order to save on fuel in Malta.

1. Do not skip routine maintenance

This, we cannot stress it enough, honestly. Car maintenance appointments are set for a reason. Not only will you be able to detect any issues with your engine, before they become problematic, but you will also be able to save on fuel. Regular maintenance checks on your vehicle can greatly improve your car's efficiency on the road. It will also lead to less fuel consumption and safer driving.

Changing your engine oil and filters on a regular basis plus having near-perfect tyre pressure will help you improve your fuel consumption. Which leads us to the next point..

2. Be mindful of tyre pressure

Your vehicle's tyres need to be inflated to the correct pressure. This pressure rating can be found in your car manual. It is generally recommended that you check your vehicle's tyre pressure at least once a month. The lower your tyre pressure is, the more fuel you will consume. Bear in mind that both over and under inflated tyres affect your car's fuel consumption and safety in different ways.

Tyres in good condition will also be beneficial as it can lessen the chance of vehicle damage and it will help your car runing in a smoother manner.

3. Drive sensibly

Needless to say, the way you drive is one of the most important factors in terms of fuel consumption. There are a number of tips and tricks that you can implement in order to save on fuel. Gentle acceleration on high gears is one of the tips given to economise on fuel.

If you drive in a harsh or rapid manner, your car will consume more fuel.

Not only will driving in a more gentle and steady manner help you save up in terms of fuel consumption, but it will also keep you safer on the road.

4. Close your windows

When it comes to using the air conditioner in your car, you should keep in mind that it uses up some of your engine power, resulting in more fuel consumption. This is more of an issue when you are driving at low speeds or worse still stuck in traffic. Your air conditioning system will also need regular checks to keep it working in an optimal condition thus helping in the overall consumption of fuel.
