Balancing your personal and professional life can be super challenging at times, especially now that most people are working from home – the lines between work and life tend to get foggy and blurred.

A good work-life balance has several benefits. It can increase productivity at work, reduce your stress level and presents people with a lower risk of burnout.

Here are five tips that will help you improve and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

1. Unplug after work

Whether you unplug by reading a book, watching a movie, going for walk or cooking, decompressing after a long day will allow you some time to recover.

Cutting ties with your professional life after a set time in the evening will allow you to recover. Taking time to unwind and regroup will provide you with a much-needed mental and physical recharge.

2. Stick to your goals

By implementing solid time-management strategies, compiling to-do lists and sticking to them, you will be able to give both your professional and personal life more value. Give priority to any tasks you need to finish off during a certain day or week. This will help you structure your day and increase your productivity at work – without affecting your free time.

3. Don't be afraid to ask for help

Working from home does not present you with all the time in the world – especially if you have kids. You can indeed keep an eye out on your children and get more chores done, however, this also means that you can suffer from fatigue and burnout more easily. If your work is piling up and you're feeling overwhelmed, you can ask a relative to babysit your kids for a few days.

4. Make the most out of it

Make time for your hobbies, relationships and friendships. Even if that means indulging in them for just 45 minutes a day. Be realistic – do not plan a lavish dinner for a busy day, but a quick walk or a chat over coffee is better than nothing.

5. Outsource help

There's no shame in picking and choosing which chores you actually want to do. There are plenty of companies that offer cleaning, cooking and laundry services. This will leave you with some extra wiggle room when it comes to having a better work-life balance.
