Thinking of getting engaged? WOW, that's great!

The next step is choosing the right diamond bling to propose with. You might think all diamonds are the same - after all they all shine bright. But, although this can be somewhat true, diamonds do differ from one another in style, shape and cut. The famous cut is often confused with reference to the shape. However, these two features are separate. Whereas the shape refers to the diamond's form, the cut is actually how the diamond's proportions reflect light.

Appreciate some of the most common diamond cuts before you decide which one to choose for your loved one.

ROUND CUT

The round cut diamond is the most common selection. Its perfectly round shape allows fully for the reflection of light to do the magic and offer spectacular brightness from all of the 57 facets. No wonder it is also known as the brilliant cut by many experts in the jewellery industry. The round cut diamond will surely remain a beauty classic which complements also various types of fingers and hands elegantly.

PRINCESS CUT

This type of diamond cut is more edgy and squarish, offering also a good amount of brilliance when compared to the round cut diamond. When taking a look from the top, the princess cut diamond presents itself like an inverted pyramid. The uniqueness in this cut lies in the colours it emits from the corners as well, apart from the centre like the other diamond cuts.

OVAL CUT

Considered modern and stylish in looks, the oval cut diamond has gained more and more popularity in recent years. It's a cross between a round and pear cut diamond, but with a more elongated shape. This creates the illusion of a larger diamond size and when worn, fingers look thinner. The level of brilliance created by the oval diamond is very close to the one of the round diamond.

CUSHION CUT

Also known as the 'pillow cut', this kind of diamond cut's appearance has softer, rounded edges. Creating therefore a more romantic and sophisticated style by combining together a square and round cut. Thanks to the larger facet this type of diamond cut features, you can admire impeccable brilliance and clarity.

EMERALD CUT

If you're looking for something unique, the emerald cut can definitely be the one. Having large, open facets created with a 'step-cut' technique, the emerald cut is fascinating to look at. The effect of lights it creates is not sparkling but it's like looking at a hall of mirrors. Hence, this vintage diamond cut is more appreciated for its clarity.

PEAR CUT

This teardrop cut resembles literally a drop. With a pointed end and a rounded end, the pear cut diamond looks flattering on the finger thanks to the slimming effect it creates. If you choose this cut for your partner's engagement ring, you'll be definitely going for something eye catching and elegant. Pear cut diamonds are also very commonly used as pendants and earrings - perhaps after presenting your partner the engagement ring you could also complement it with another accessory!

RADIANT CUT

With perfectly trimmed corners, the radiant cut is designed specifically to shine brilliantly like the round cut and other diamond cuts pertaining to the group of 'brilliant cuts'. This type of diamond is sort of a hybrid between an emerald and round cut. It's usually square-shaped and shows off brilliance from the centre, which continues to radiate towards the edges.
