The Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector was established to support the development of voluntary and community service in Malta and Gozo. We strive to support the advancement of the voluntary sector by providing support services, information and training for individuals, communities and volunteer organisations through a wide range of programs and initiatives.

Among our many initiatives toward this end is the Small Initiatives Support Scheme (SIS). The SIS was designed to help applicants find funding for small projects which make big differences in their local communities. to encourage project creation in fields such as training, event planning, publications, and various other initiatives.

The objectives of the SIS Scheme are to stimulate co-operation between different voluntary organisations, provide a forum for individuals and groups to focus on issues affecting the voluntary sector, and additionally to promote a culture of volunteerism and participation in local volunteer activities among children and youth. Promoting voluntary work among youth in Malta is one of the primary missions of the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector. To do so, we have devised the Youth Voluntary Work Scheme, which aims to provide resources and support to young individuals who desire to take part in local voluntary organisations.

To help this process along, a second, yet equally important aspect of this program has been put into place. Namely, to support voluntary organisations who are trying to excite the interest among youth for volunteering. The program additionally assists young individuals in finding suitable voluntary experiences abroad in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America, providing them with a unique experience and the ability to interact with individuals whose culture differs from their own.

The Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector has also established the Training Initiatives Scheme (TIS) to train volunteers to perform their work effectively, The Voluntary Organisations Project Scheme (VOPS) to help organisations receive funding, and the Civil Society Fund (CSF), which grants financial assistance to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in facilitating affiliation with European institutions and successfully adopt EU standards of operation.
